Oyster Boys Conservation is a Florida waterway conservation nonprofit committed to restoring the oyster population on our suncoast as a way to prevent extreme Red Tides. Oysters filter 50gallons of pollution out of the water everyday and we’ve lost 90% of our oyster population over the past 100 years. More people moving to Florida means more runoff pollution into our bays and gulf. Vertical oyster gardens are an instrument consisting of recycled oyster shells from restaurants, strung on a single rope, and hung off a dock to serve as housing structure for baby oyster larvae to attach, grow and filter water. Barnacles, shrimp crabs and other nursery species also move into the oyster condos, benefitting the entire estuary. OBC engages the community at all levels to help construct the VOGs. Schools and assisted living communities regularly support the mission and help build the VOGs. Our monthly networking lunch meetings are held at:
Gecko's Grill & Pub 5585 Palmer Crossing Circle
Luncheon meetings are $25.
